This is the website of the Friends of One Tree Hill (FrOTH) - a group dedicated to the maintenance and preservation of a Local Nature Reserve as an area of interest and public amenity on the borders of the London Boroughs of Southwark and Lewisham.
The main function of FrOTH is to work, with LB Southwark, to maintain and promote One Tree Hill as a Local Nature Reserve and a leisure resource in the local community.
We organise many events during the year, details of which you can find on the events page.
These include
- workdays, where we clear some areas which have become overgrown, look at the hedging, check for Japanese knotweed, clean and install bird boxes, provide shelters for stag beetles and so on. It is good when many people come along to these to help keep the woods in a pleasant condition. Tools and refreshments are provided.
- nature events which look at the bird life, moths, bats and other fauna, and trees, fungi and other flora living in the woodland.
- history events, most recently the Great War Archaeology Group (GWAG) have looked at the WW1 anti-zeppelin gun emplacement at the top of the hill
- an annual meeting with a speaker looking at a natural or historical aspect of the wood and environs.
We hope that you have joined FrOTH and will enjoy the hill and taking part in some of the activities throughout the year.
